Making a welcome return to G-A-Y, although for her first time at Heaven, last Saturday Beverley Knight performed before a capacity crowd and had them eating out of her hand. After some 16 years in the game, the original UK Soul diva is about to launch a new album featuring covers of a host of British artists who are no longer active on the mainstream scene, and gave us the most brilliant taster. Resplendent in a skimpy white leotard and silver leather knee-high Louboutin boots, we were treated to Soul 2 Soul’s ‘Fairplay’, Junior’s ‘Mama Used to Say’, Roachford’s Cuddly Toy’ and Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of My Heart’ as well as her own ‘Made It Back lyrics’ and ‘Keep This Fire Burning’. Superb powerhouse vocals and a lovely down to earth girl too – Bev we love you.
